A sweet, gentle read perfect for animal lovers and lovers of uplifting stories. I'm not sure how I came across Victoria Connelly, but after reading only two of her books so far, she seems to have that rare talent for storytelling without resorting to violence, cursing, and other unpleasantness I personally don't want to come across in my reading. A Dog Called Hope is a lovely novella about the healing power between an animal and her human. It just might inspire you to pluck up a dandelion and start living again!
Sammy loves animals and is a volunteer for the animal rescue center in a small British town. A small young black dog had been hanging around the churchyard and then it is struck by a car. Sammy sees this happen and rushes the dog to the veterinarian. It's in a shameful condition of malnutrition and is covered with fleas. The vet will do what he can but is not optimistic. Sammy tells the vet, "there is always hope." This is a very short story which will warm your heart and make you realize that a dog is always man's best friend. Take a breather and enjoy this warm story of care, hope, and love.
A short, sweet story about loss and the healing power of dogs.

Sammy works at an animal rescue and, when they rescued a small black dog that looked like she had just given up, Sammy named her Hope. And Sammy knew just the person to foster her, her own father. He had lost his beloved wife, Sammy's mother, six months ago and seemed steeped in grief. She just had to talk him into it.

I loved this story. All of my dogs are rescues and I know personally how they can help with grief. Remember...when all else fails, hug a dog.
